14 Oct 2022 update
Back then:-
A Public Meeting was held on 13th September 1957 at the Lymington Community Centre “to consider forming a Lymington and District Gardeners Club” with the objective of the Club being “To co-operate in the study and solution of gardening problems with a view to getting greater pleasure and better crops and flowers from the garden or allotment”. The Club got underway stating that it “will hold at least 7 evening meetings during the Autumn-Spring Season 1957/58” where “Experts will speak and demonstrate on gardening topics”. The annual subscription was 5 shillings.
Now:-
We had to cancel some meetings in 2020/21 due to COVID, and our attendance suffered afterwards. But now there is a lot of enthusiasm to get back together again. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month from September to May at 2:00 p.m. (with registration from 1:40 p.m.) in the McLellan Hall at the Lymington Community Centre. We have another interesting and varied programme of speakers for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. We will also be organizing a garden visit in June 2023.
Date | Speaker | Subject |
Nov. 8, 2022 | Ron Taylor | Come journey with the great explorers |
Dec. 13, 2022 | Stewart Pocock | Roses – planting to pruning |
Jan. 10, 2023 | Julia Baker | History of Furzey Gardens |
Feb. 14, 2023 | Alan Edmondson | Primulas and Auriculas |
Mar. 14, 2023 | Tom Clarke | The Centenary Garden, Exbury |
Apr. 11, 2023 | Martin Young | Making a butterfly garden |
May 9, 2023 | Geoff Hawkins | All year round colour |
Tea or coffee and biscuits are available in an interval so that we have a chance to talk to the speaker, to each other, and to buy plants when they are available. We are affiliated with the RHS, which allows us to organize one group visit per annum to a RHS garden with free entry for non-RHS members.
