Keep fit and help enhance the environment with the Milford Conservation Volunteers

MCV helps the parish council look after our nature reserves and public open spaces;  including the Pleasure Grounds, Sharvells Copse, Studland Common & Meadow, the Community Orchard,  the new Rowan Tree Copse (off Swallow Drive) and help the Gardening Club at Old Milford Meadow (behind All Saints Church).

MCV provided and manage the public Bird Hide at Sturt Pond and the Bird Observatory in Keyhaven which is operated by an electronic access ‘fob’ available exclusively from MCV.

At the Observatory and Bird Hide each month we hold ‘Birding for Beginners’ sessions throughout the year between 10am and Noon on the first Saturday and the third Saturday respectively. We welcome families (all ages), novices, and first-time birders to join our team of experienced volunteers who will point out the various birds on show.  MCV even provide the scopes, binoculars and field guides to help you with your bird ID.

For the more active, we hold a series of mid-week small-task-team sessions, managing the smaller jobs. If you feel the need to do something more ‘physical’ feel free to join our working parties? We undertake, coppicing, tree planting, footpath and revetment reinstatement, logging and a lot more besides, in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where you are trained and encouraged to ‘work at your own pace’.

Keyhaven ‘Creeks & Saltmarsh’ – Birding Trips

To date, MCV has conducted 35 guided birding trips onto the saltmarshes with Hurst Castle Ferries. Seats are available via the MCV Conservation Officer – Keith Metcalf (details at the bottom of page).

Possible New Youth  ‘Wildlife Explorer’s Group’

Later this year we hope to be working closely with the local RSPB group and other major conservation groups to arrange a number of youth activities (outdoors & in) where we shall invite young speakers and leaders to ‘Walk and Talk’ the New Forest and Coastal habitats.

If you, your children, or your grandchildren, have a natural interest in the outdoors, let our conservation officer know so that they can be placed on a waiting list for later in the year.
