Founded in 1909, the Society is one of the oldest local history societies in the country and became a Registered Charity in 2018.

Member involvement…
The ArchiveThe Society holds over 8,000 records which are available to members. The website helps identify any specific request – by type, decade or century. It also welcomes donations of documents and photographs – or loans thereof – from the public.

“Bringing History Home”a project to encourage the local community to explore and contribute to our rich historical heritage. Individuals are able to add to the archive online… (supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund).

Research & Discussion GroupFor members who are actively involved in researching our local history and provides support for individual/team research projects.
