PROBUS is a local, national, and international association of retired people who come together in non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit, autonomous clubs which provide regular opportunities for members to meet others in similar circumstances, with similar levels of interest, make new friends, and maintain and expand their interests.
The Milford on Sea Probus Club is The local Probus Club amongst a number of active Probus Clubs in the area. We meet monthly on the fourth Tuesday in the month at the South Lawn Hotel. The meetings start with coffee at 10.30 a.m. followed by a brief administration section at 11 a.m. and then a talk given by an outside speaker covering a wide range of topics during the year. After the talk there is time for pre lunch drinks and then lunch about 12.45 p.m. with the meeting closing about 2 p.m. We have recently adopted a less formal Smart Casual dress code in keeping with the contemporary business style.
The current cost of membership is an joining fee of £25.00 and annual subscription of £25. This covers the costs for speakers and members pay at the time for their lunch at a current cost of £27.50 which includes coffee on arrival and a two course lunch with coffee after. Members are assumed to be attending unless they give apologies before noon on the Friday before the meeting and failure to do so leaves them liable for the cost of the meal. The menu provides a choice between a meat, fish or vegetarian dish menu from the selection offered by the Hotel.
