The Lymington and District Historical Society is your connection to local history. We hope that if you share our interest for the past you will join us. Each year we organise a series of winter talks and summer excursions to places of historical interest.

Throughout this difficult winter, our talks (on Zoom) have included subjects such as 100 Years of the New Forest Show, Sir William Harcourt’s Fireside, The Gay Gibson Murder, Our Dorset Ancestors, Hamble in the Past and Embarking on the D Day Armada. A very varied collection! Some of these talks have been recorded and are available (to members only) on our website.

Our website https://www.lymingtonanddistricthistoricalsociety.co.uk is full of interesting information including many images of Lymington and surroundings, past published papers from talks dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, “Reflections” articles (written by Jude James our President and well-known historian) published regularly in the Advertiser and Times and a suggested booklist covering  Lymington history. There are plenty of hints and links on how to do your own research.
